[People News] On March 28, 2025, a major earthquake struck Myanmar. On the same day, Yunnan, China, witnessed an unusual phenomenon—a bright red “blood sun” hanging in the sky. Shortly after, Yunnan again experienced a “blood-red sky,” prompting widespread public anxiety over the possibility of an impending earthquake. Clearly, the public associates such celestial phenomena with bad omens. A Hong Kong metaphysics expert stated that abnormalities involving the sun are particularly inauspicious, as the sun symbolizes the sovereign, namely, the nation's top leader, and also forewarns of national misfortune.

The March 28 earthquake in Myanmar measured 7.7 in magnitude, causing 3,085 deaths, 4,715 injuries, and leaving 341 people missing. The quake impacted multiple Southeast Asian countries. In Thailand, a 33-story building in Bangkok—constructed by China Railway No. 10 Bureau—completely collapsed during a magnitude 4 tremor, reinforcing the global reputation of “Made in China” equating to “tofu-dreg projects” (i.e., shoddy construction).

The earthquake also affected several cities and counties in China’s Yunnan Province. Earthquakes were reported in Zhenkang County of Lincang City and Huize County of Qujing City, sparking widespread panic. Locals noted a blood-red round sun appearing in the sky, which the majority of internet users perceived as a bad omen. Then, on March 30—just two days later—Yunnan’s entire sky turned blood red, further intensifying the public’s fear.

Many netizens in Kunming shared videos online, commenting: “The real sky in Kunming is even redder than what the phone shows—is that normal?” “The sky in Kunming felt really strange all day—one side gray and gloomy, the other side terrifyingly red.” “I’ve lived in Kunming for over 20 years and never seen anything like this—it’s really eerie.” “There was an earthquake just over an hour ago. I’m so scared. I live on the 6th floor.” “I don’t dare sleep. My two kids are beside me. I have to stay alert.” “A few days ago, Sichuan was purple, now Yunnan is red—so many strange phenomena.” “It makes me anxious.” “The end is near.” “The mountains are like oceans, the setting sun like blood—evil reigns, righteousness fades.”

Some experienced netizens from Sichuan offered warnings: “The evening before the Wenchuan earthquake, the sunset in Chengdu was also unusually red.” “I remember when my grandfather was still alive—about half a year before the Wenchuan earthquake—he once told me that in all his 80+ years, he’d never seen the sky look like that. He said something big might happen. At the time, I laughed and said he was superstitious.”

A netizen from Guangxi recalled: “When we were in school, our Chinese teacher once told us the sky was also blood-red before the Tangshan earthquake.” Another netizen from Shandong shared: “Shandong’s sky turned red last year too, and shortly afterward, there was an earthquake.”

Some netizens have suggested, "We should pay attention to animal behavior. In 2008, in Sichuan, we observed chickens refusing to enter their coops, rats falling into pots and spinning around, and many frogs running on land. Additionally, my dog broke its leash and kept crying. The well was making gurgling noises." "Friends in Yunnan, prepare your tents; it's safer outside now."

In response to the strange phenomenon of the blood-red sun and blood-red sky, Hong Kong fortune teller Wu Peifu (吴佩孚) offered his interpretation on his YouTube channel 'Focus FMTV'. He explained that the blood-red sun has historically been viewed as an ominous sign in Chinese records. The sun symbolizes the sovereign, or emperor, and any problems with the sun, such as solar eclipses or blood-red suns, are seen as unfavorable for the emperor, which refers to the highest leader of the Communist Party of China. This also suggests that the nation's fortune is not good.

Wu Peifu cited an example where an earthquake in Myanmar led to the collapse of a poorly constructed building in Bangkok, Thailand, built by Chinese contractors. This incident damaged its reputation and was labeled a shoddy project. Such controversies are likely to increase, as inquiries will arise regarding the reasons behind the construction of such poor-quality buildings. Consider the nearby unfinished buildings that have stood for decades without any issues during the earthquake; thus, the collapse of this building will certainly have consequences. In any case, the appearance of a blood-red sun is never a good omen.

As for why there have been multiple occurrences of the blood-red sun and blood-red sky in such a short time frame, how should we interpret this?

Wu Peifu remarked that the continuous emergence of negative signs should be interpreted as a warning from above, necessitating caution, particularly among those in power. Ordinary citizens, he advised, should keep cash readily available. The question arises: Why is China's economy in such poor shape? The answer lies in the widespread sense of uncertainty about the future; people are hesitant to purchase property, lacking aspirations for what lies ahead. Many are adopting a 'lying flat' mentality, avoiding marriage and childbirth, and refraining from spending. They prefer to hold onto cash rather than invest, buy real estate, or engage in business activities. This has led to a decline in physical stores, the economy, and the real estate sector, creating a chain reaction. Furthermore, the recent actions taken by the authorities to push foreign capital away have eroded confidence among foreign investors. Under these circumstances, how can the economy possibly improve?
